Ethiopia presented its Disaster Risk Management Strategy experience at the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction’s (UNDRR) Support Group Meeting, which took place in Geneva, Switzerland, on April 22, 2024.

At the meeting, Mr. Amsalu Tizazu, Minister Counsellor at the Permanent Mission of Ethiopia in Geneva, discussed the experiences of Ethiopia and highlighted key points regarding the outcomes of the recent tour to Ethiopia (March 4–5, 2024) by the UNDRR Donor Mission, the effects of hazards related to climate change, the implementation of the Sendai Framework, and Early Warning for All Initiatives in Ethiopia.

Mr. Amsalu said that the support from the UNDRR and stakeholders has enabled Ethiopian Disaster Risk Management Commission to enhance its preparedness and response capabilities, ensuring timely and effective communication of alerts and warnings to at-risk communities.

In light of the ongoing effects of climate-related hazards, he urged the international community to bolster their backing and augment Ethiopia’s comprehensive efforts towards disaster risk reduction and management.
